GIRLS ON THE RUN ANNOUNCES SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY FOR UP AN COMING BOULDER MOUNTAIN TOUR SKIER
Thanks to a grant made possible by the Little Black Dress Club, and help from partners such as Sun Valley Company, VAMPS and the Boulder Mountain Tour, the Girls on the Run organization would like to help make a budding cross-country skier set their sights on completing the Boulder Mountain Tour on February 2, 2013.
“When the summer racing calendar filled up with athletes taking on their first half and full marathons, and a team of racers decided to tackle a 24-hour relay race, it became a apparent to us that some of these athletes could use a little help to realize these race goals,” shared Girls on the Run Director Mary Fauth.
“The reality was that the real costs to train, travel and participate in a goal in any sport comes with substantial costs, but the rewards are ten fold with you accomplish something for yourself and on behalf of something you care about.”
The Solemate Charity Racing Program is the fundraising arm of Girls on the Run where male and female athletes pursue individual goals, such as running a marathon, completing a triathlon or cycling event, or even doing our first 5k or 10k, to raise money for Girls on the Run of the Wood River Valley.
“We wanted to expose the Solemate program to winter athletes. The timing of the Little Black Dress Club grant to help offset some of the training and racing costs has allowed us to launch our first scholarship application request for those who can demonstrate a financial need, desire to race on behalf of the Girls on the Run program, and who would like to race in the Boulder Mountain tour perhaps for the first time,” explained Fauth.
“And working with a group like Muffy Ritz’s VAMPS is one of the ingredients we believe is a benefit and major motivator in contemplating any sport goal… camaraderie.”
One athlete will be awarded a spot on the VAMPS cross country skiing training program, a Sun Valley Nordic ski pass and an entry in the Boulder Mountain Tour. Applicants should visit the Girls on the Run website for the full application. Deadline to enter is December Friday, December 14th.
We’d like to thank Sun Valley Company and the Boulder Mountain Tour for donating the cost of a Sun Valley Nordic pass and entry into the race, and Muffy Ritz for making a spot available on her renown women’s training team VAMPS that can help any athlete achieve amazing things!
